The ABC of ELT

DELTA Module 2: The Calm before the storm

Well. After a few years break due to…different reasons. I’m finally getting back to completing my DELTA. You might have thought that I had completed my DELTA at some point as it’s pretty unusual to drag it out for so long. However, I’m not your typical person and so I’ve gone my own route.

Why I waited so long to continue my DELTA

A lot of factors lead to me delaying continuing my DELTA studies, some were good, some not so good. some were in my own control, others were less so. for the record, I failed in my module 3 submission. This was a large factor in my break from the DELTA and it took a lot of wind out of my sails. This was also combined with moving to a new country and starting a new job (as well as getting married at the end of the year), these factors lead to me choosing to take a break from continuing for a year.
After a year off, I was gunning to go again, but unfortunately, some confusing messages from some of the management team lead to me questioning whether I should continue. I don’t want to go into too much detail here but emails aren’t great, and missing face to face meetings due to my work schedule made this drag on.
Finally, a last problem was trying to sign up too late for certain course options. the courses filled up quickly and I couldn’t get on to the courses that I wanted. In the end, I had to wait a bit but I finally managed to sign up for a course (after some difficult back and forth emails.)

Online with Bell

I’m taking module two online with Bell, I had hoped to take my course face to face with the British Council in Warsaw (as I had been put off online courses from my module three experience.) but I couldn’t get on a course. Come of my colleagues had completed the online course with Bell and spoke highly of them, and in addition they were a bit cheaper than the distance delta (win!)
I needed a local tutor but luckily that was a very easy task to complete as I have a few highly qualified colleagues. My tutor is a fan of Chess so we’ve got a standing arrangement to play a game and discuss the DELTA and maybe I’ll get good enough to beat him at a game (I’m currently four games down and I seem to be getting worse :s)

More notes to come

Like my previous DELTA diary updates, I’ll continue to post updates as I progress and add them to my DELTA resource page. I’m planning on revising some of my module one stuff to get my knowledge back on form and luckily I still have all my handy notes in Evernote and there are some great Quizlet sets.

A suggested resource: How to pass the DELTA

I picked up “How to pass the DELTA” discounted on Black Friday and so far I’ve found it to be a useful little resource that you might want to check out as well.

So until next time, see you around.
